Stephen Barry is a respected mediator with over three decades of experience navigating high-stakes litigation. Drawing on his deep background as a trial lawyer and problem-solver, Stephen founded Barry Rome Mediation to help parties resolve disputes efficiently, fairly, and with clarity.

​

As an active litigator and founding partner of Barry Rome & Scott, Stephen has spent his career in courtrooms across Louisiana and Texas, trying complex civil cases and advocating for clients in personal injury, insurance defense, and tort litigation. He has successfully argued before the Louisiana Supreme Court and both state and federal appellate courts, giving him a unique perspective on how disputes evolve—and how they can be resolved.

Stephen’s approach to mediation is informed not only by his litigation experience but also by his formal training at the nationally acclaimed Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law. Known for his practical insight, calm demeanor, and ability to understand both plaintiff and defense positions, Stephen is frequently called upon to mediate complex and emotionally charged disputes.

His professional experience also includes service as Judge Pro Tempore by appointment of the Louisiana Supreme Court, as well as Deputy City Attorney for the City of New Orleans, where he managed civil trial litigation and risk management. He has served as adjunct faculty at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate. Before entering the legal profession, Stephen earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and worked in General Motors' elite EDS/Cadillac division—adding analytical precision to his legal and mediation practice.

Stephen is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state and federal courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also licensed in the state of Texas.
